Sin FootballThis is a Sin City style football commercial featuring Romania vs Romania. ModellingMarco, Kay and Romain Joly did the modelling for this job. The stadium, environment and football were created digitally. Kay did CG supervising for this spot and adviced Romain regarding look and detail of the CG environment surrounding the stadium we see in the first shot. Kay modelled a new stadium that was matchmoved into real footage. Marco created a high resolution football for the slow motion shot at the end. Shading, Lighting & RenderingKay and Romain textured and shaded the objects, using Maya and Mental Ray shaders. Kay lit the scenes with standard Maya lighting tools. For indirect lighting he used GI maps based on HDRI images in combination with spotlights. He rendered multiple layers and passes to be able to tweak the outcome in compositing. The final compositing was done by Oriol Puig Castellano in Flame. MatchmovingMatchmoving was tricky on this job, because initially it was not planned to place a CG stadion onto the footage. The last shot showing the ball in close up was tracked manually by Kay, because commercial matchmoving software refused to output useful data. Animation & Software DevelopmentTo fill the stadium with animated crowds Kay used custom Locomotion software developed by Dirk. Crowds were animated using a mass object transformation tool and cached for pipeline parallelization and rendering with Locomotion's caching software. |
